Jeff Rogers is a poet, writer, performer, blogger, and arts event MC. He grew up in Michigan college towns Kalamazoo and East Lansing but dropped out after his sophomore year in 1983 and drove cross country in search of adventure and enlightenment to Los Angeles, where he has lived ever since. He has performed extensively around town. He’s published in the groundbreaking anthology of Los Angeles poets The Coiled Serpent and a number of literary journals online and in print. Since 1989 he has performed, written, directed, and produced for the poetry performance and theatre troupe Gray Pony, founded by poet C. Natale Peditto. Since 2017 he’s helped produce and host Drunken Masters New Works Series with the visionary publishers and community-builders at Writ Large Press, Chiwan Choi, Judeth Oden Choi and Peter Woods). He blogged as Hippie Squared at Ernessa T. Carter’s fierceandnerdy.com, where he also kept a diary in three-line poems posted each day at noon called Three Line Lunch. He blogged as LefthandedJeff at Eric Sims’ beenandgoing.com. Ironically, he also invented the word blogger in 1985 as the nonsense curse word of a three-year-old girl in the poem “Blogger Old Potatoes,” but lost the contest of definitions to the one we now know. He co-founded the annual all-lefthanded poets’ reading Write Left with S.A. Griffin in 2019.
