Jonaki Ray was educated in India (IIT Kanpur) and the USA (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign). A scientist by training, she is now a poet, writer, and editor in New Delhi. Honours for her work include 2018 Pushcart and Forward Prize for Best Single Poem nominations, as well as the 2019 Iceland Writers Retreat Alumni Award and First Prize (ESL) in the 2017 Oxford Brookes International Poetry Contest. She has presented and performed her work in India and abroad—the most recent being at the 2023 RHOME conference (University of Lisbon), and been selected as a writer-in-residence for international residencies in Spain, Italy, and Portugal. Her poetry collection, Firefly Memories (Copper Coin) and chapbook, Lessons in Bending (Sundress Publications) have been published recently.
