W. Kim Heron is a web and publications writer for the Kresge Foundation, a $3.2 billion foundation based in the Detroit suburb of Troy, working to expand opportunity in America’s cities. The national foundation works in education, health, human services, the environment, arts and culture, and community development, in addition to its Detroit program. Heron, a member of the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame, was managing editor and editor of Metro Times in Detroit for 17 years before joining the Kresge Foundation, and has also worked for the Detroit Sunday Journal, the Detroit Free Press and the Lansing State Journal. A longtime jazz fan and amateur musician, he hosted a jazz radio show on Detroit’s WDET-FM for more than a decade.
