Haiti has often been plagued by the cruelties of politics, commerce, and nature, but it has also produced some rare individuals, disinterested in self-promotion or personal gain, who have – against incredible odds – found ways to better the lives of those in need. Father Joseph Philippe is one such man, or more accurately, he is five or six social activists in one.
Filmmaker Jeff Kaufman, a member of our Cultural Weekly community who has made outstanding documentaries fro Amnesty International, has launched an indiegogo campaign to create a documentary about Father Joseph’s stunning achievements; the project needs $40,000 by March 6, 2013. Seventy percent of the profits from the project will go to the people Father Joseph serves.
