DTLAB: Opening 6/27
UPDATE: We have changed the location for the entire duration of DTLAB. It’s now at happening at Les Noces Du Figaro – 618 S. Broadway Ave., LA CA 90014
We have set a kick-off date for DTLAB and our 90 events/90 days project:
Friday, June 27. 5PM.
Come celebrate with us on that last Friday of the month, drink, read and buy books from local writers and publishers, and participate in the opening event, our very own PUBLISH!.
In this edition of PUBLISH!, Writ Large Press, with the help of a questionably accurate speech-to-text software, will be publishing all of you who enter the bar and speak.
And Sunday of that opening weekend will be an event curated by Shana Nys Dambrot.
THAT’S JUST THE OPENING WEEKEND! AND THERE’S MORE!
Other people and groups who have committed to our #90for90 summer and that we have officially penciled in on our calendar are:
Luis J. Rodriguez, Jen Hofer, Charles Yu, Anya Yurchyshyn, Steve Abee, J Michael Walker, Andrea Gutierrez, Ed Lin, Naomi Hirahara, Zoe Ruiz, Melora Walters, Mike the Poet Sonksen, Rachel Reilich, Jason Grote, Jo Scott-Coe, Glen Hirschberg, Joe Medeiros, Jervey Tervalon, Will Wright, VONA, MUSE Magazine, Jonathan Jay, Alexandra Kostoulas, Natashia Deon, Dirty Laundry Lit, Jessica Ceballos, Traci Akemi Kato-Kiriyama, Tanzila Ahmed, LA Opera, El Segundo Museum of Art, Joseph Lapin, Working Poets Radio Show, Joe Loya, Jim Ruland, Gary Phillips, Peter J. If you are not on this list and have already emailed me, we will be getting back to you shortly to figure out if/how we can fit you into our calendar.
If you haven’t contacted us yet and after reading this, are interested in creating/presenting an event this summer at DTLAB, let me know.
There is an area in which we are in need. We are looking for people who have a desire and the imagination to share their love for writing, art, and/or cultural phenomena in one of the two following ways:
- As a Super Fan who wants to bring together other fans of a specific thing (whether it’s the writing of David Markson or Bob’s Burgers)
- As a host of a Flash Book Club or Reading Group, which could be anything from a group that gets together once a week or so to read the plays of August Wilson, the poetry of Li-Young Lee, or discuss the accuracy in the film adaption of The Fault in Our Stars.
Contact me ASAP if you think you can do this!
I will be adding to these names as we hear back and figure out dates and all that.
Oh, and some of our very favorite DTLA bartenders will be serving the booze.
Basically, it will be the greatest three months in the ENTIRE HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSE!
