How To Rephrase Your Text?

Every person once or twice in his life has to write project-related essays. When you do your research, you find tons of information, and processing it may be slightly overwhelming. Not only that, you can’t use the exact words in your works, otherwise, it will be considered plagiarism. Plagiarism is defined as the intentional use of the results of someone else’s creative, intellectual, or other types of work. It is characteristic of both the use of other people’s developments in their own activities and the deliberate distortion of the final copyright in this context. Every student is aware that when the percentage of uniqueness in their work is calculated, it is frequently found to be very low. Besides the plagiarism problems, some words or combinations of words may sound inorganic. For example, “online casino Canada real money”. Sounds a bit gibberish, doesn’t it? If you try to paraphrase it into, let’s say “bet real money on Canadian online casinos”, it would sound more natural and ear-catching. That is the art of rephrasing and transforming your texts into something unique of your own.

First Steps

There’s one thing you need to understand very clearly: you can’t steal other people’s work, no matter how good it is. That’s unethical and borderline rude. What you can do, is take the main point and try to form it in your own words. That’s what rephrasing is. What can you do to put your thoughts into writing?

Do your research. Try to find as much information as you can: it will help you understand the subject better. Make sure to use synonyms, don’t be repetitive. Not only it will help you to sound professional, but your text will also be rich with texture. Try to rephrase, use different parts of speech, add your own words and thought, and combine everything into the structure.

The Main Points Of Rephrasing

The process of paraphrasing is very interesting, but unlike a simple rewrite, a complex (deep) rewrite is a more creative process. In this case, the author does not just rewrite the source text but creates a completely new article written on the basis of several sources. Keep the following important points in mind to achieve high-quality paraphrasing:

  • It is preferable to leave the text’s main idea, as well as personal statements, in their original form.
  • Keep the logical connections between them by changing the structure of the sentence and the order of the ideas contained within it. For instance, if the author begins the text with a generalization and follows it up with an example, make the example an introduction to the generalization.
  • You can move a phrase from the beginning to the end of a sentence by paraphrasing it.
  • Use synonyms to actively replace words in the original text, but remember to adapt them to your specific topic.
  • The proposals can be combined and divided as needed.
  • Only use direct quotes in specific cases. Choose the most interesting and significant statements for this.
  • Compare your paraphrased version to the original text on a regular basis. It is critical that you do not lose the original’s meaning or overlook important details.
  • Add links to your text to pay homage to the author of the source text.

The most important aspect of any text is the meaning it conveys, not the symbolic mass that conveys that meaning. Determine the main ideas and structure of the text, change the structure, and rebuild the text from scratch according to the theses in your own words to create an author’s rewrite. Retouch the resulting material using traditional methods if necessary.
