This I Know
The soil of upstate New York
is nourished with my ancestors
bone and sinew broken down
persisting in root and branches.
That I shed blood and tissue
to create a copy of myself
incubated him in a public library
fed him books and songs so he sings
Hamilton to his graphic novels.
This fleshy husk is finite
HydrogenCarbonOxygenNitrogen
a kindness the universe lends us
that will return to stardust and soil.
