YOUTH NEGLIGENCE
In every corner you see him
In tattered clothing
Face reddened with hunger and lack
Clothing unto his bowl, stretching hands for alms
Begging becomes pastime at his leisure
Where thou his parents,
Where thou his caregivers
Many questions for which he lacks answers
His begetter he sees not,
His comforter far away
Thrown at a poor mallam at the dawn of his life
Here, he is to pick knowledge and ruggedness expected of a man
Robbed off him is the joy of childhood,
Adulthood uncertain
Such is the story of almajiri in the Northern part of Nigeria
Who is made a wanderer only by accident of his environment.
