Live This Week

When stars align

Anyone who missed San Francisco Ballet’s Sasha de Sola and Harrison James in Balanchine’s Diamonds pas de deux at the Hollywood Bowl or American Ballet Theatre’s rising star Chloe Misseldine as Giselle at Segerstrom, good news!  All three principal dancers are among the eight pros scheduled for this year’s Gala of the Stars benefiting the pre-professional company Festival Ballet. The multi-part event includes the main performance with De Sola and James from San Francisco Ballet, Misseldine plus corps dancers Michael de la Nuez, Brady Farrar, and Sylvia Squires from ABT, principal dancer Julian Mackay from Munich Germany’s Bayerisches Staatsballett, and principal dancer Violetta Keller from Finnish National Opera and Ballet. Preceding the professionals, promising pre-professionals perform in Inspired Young Protégés, and a ticketed gala dinner follows the main performance. Irvine Barclay Theatre, UC Irvine, 4242 Campus Dr., Irvine; Thurs., Aug. 7, 6 pm, $80-$95, dinner $175. Irvine Barclay.
