Shirin Neshat captures depth from the subjects of her photographic portraits, and creates fiction in films and videos at a quality level comparable to some of the works of Akira Kurosawa, Ingmar Bergman, and Michelangelo Antonioni. Their uniqueness also derives from her feminine sensitivity and understanding of ancient cultures. In doing so, she opens for the Western World a window to look at the other, beyond itself.
