Julissa Padilla has an immense passion for film making and for telling a unique story; particularly anything that has to do with the past, pop culture, and Los Angeles.Ever since she was a child growing up in the San Fernando Valley, she had been fascinated with animation and the process behind making a still image come to life. Her humble beginnings made her cherish the importance of family and keeping history alive by sharing it with others. During Middle and High school, she would spend her free time drawing and learning about film history; only able to relate to her teachers and counselors. She is fascinated by filmmakers such as Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Walt Disney, Erich Von Stroheim, Steven Speilberg, John Hughes just to name a few. While attending Woodbury University, she was able to continue her passion with filmmaking but specifically animation. It wasn’t until her Junior year where she decided to expand her choice of media which also includes learning about the process of making live action films and documentaries. This gave her more of a range as to how to tell a story and where she can also be inspired from. She has worked for companies such as The Academy of Motion Pictures and Science, Disney, and Buzzfeed. She is currently working as a Data Librarian working for a media company called VDMS; archiving and categorizing a variety of shows for kids. She is also passionately working on a personal project series called “History Street Smarts” for her independent film company Vidstorical Films. This series involves her exploring the stories as to why the streets around us are named the way they are along with tying a film element to each episode. These videos have been successfully published on the Hollywood Heritage Museum’s website. She currently resides in the San Fernando Valley looking at the beautiful nature of fruits growing in her backyard and farm animals occasionally roaming down the streets.
