The Kamaliad
Over 3,700 attack drones obscure the Persian sun
as they target ships in the Strait of Hormuz and refineries beyond
countered by missiles obedient to the Orange Instigator
ever wreaking carnage in pursuit of vainglory and personal profit.
At the same time, Ukraine, Gaza, and Minneapolis bleed.
O, for the spirit of a Cronkite, who could skewer Nixon,
explain the loss of Carter, and tell the victory of Reagan
with resonant sagacity! More than news, we need wisdom
in these senseless times gripped by Congressional slumber,
Supreme Court waywardness, and MAGA revelry
under climate-changed skies hazy from wildfire smoke
heavy with stink from the last time insurrectionists sacked
our Capitol, where once presided Kamala the Momala,
who rose from AG to VP, having conquered
monsters from predatory lenders to drug traffickers,
who had only 107 days to battle the Orange Perpetrator,
winning in early fundraising and debates, garnering
endorsements from Barack and Michelle Obama,
Jennifer Aniston, Ben Affleck, Beyoncé,
John Cho, George Clooney, Glenn Close,
Jamie Lee Curtis, Matt Damon, Viola Davis,
Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Will Ferrell,
Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Anne Hathaway,
Vanessa Hudgens, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson,
Mindy Kaling, Jennifer Lawrence, Tzi Ma,
Seth MacFarlane, Idina Menzel, Demi Moore,
Kate Mulgrew, Lupita Nyong’o, Sarah Jessica Parker,
Rosie Perez, Lou Diamond Philipps, Jack Quaid,
Julia Roberts, Kristen Stewart, Uma Thurman,
Marisa Tomei, Dick Van Dyke, BD Wong,
and most importantly, Bad Bunny.
Yet she was vanquished by charges of weakness on immigration,
disappointment in her positions on fracking and healthcare, and
the reticence of those who could not imagine
a Black woman president, no matter how qualified.
Kamala now waits in her tent like Achilles in a blue pantsuit
considering a run in 2028, leaving us to wallow
in this Tartarus of financial and spiritual despair.
Will she emerge to avenge Biden, Fauci, or Powell?
Will she resuscitate the EPA, the DOJ, and NPR?
Will she reopen the strait to launch a thousand ships,
restart commerce, and restore peace?
Our democracy has no gods, only people and a constitution.
Let us vote, and may our nation endure.
